Frequently asked questions

Clear answers about builds, compatibility, fit and how the planning process works.

What is YourBikeBuilder?

YourBikeBuilder is a guided tool for planning a single-speed bicycle. You answer a few questions about how you ride, your priorities, budget and basic fit information. From there, the builder creates a starting setup and explains the reasoning behind its recommendations.

Do I need to know a lot about bikes before using it?

No. YourBikeBuilder is designed so you can start without knowing technical bicycle standards. The first questions focus on things you are likely to know already, such as your height, riding style and where you plan to ride. More technical information only appears when it becomes relevant.

What does YourBikeBuilder recommend?

The builder can help with decisions such as frame direction and size, gearing, tires, handlebars, crank length and other components that make up a single-speed bicycle. Recommendations become more precise as you add information to your build.

Does YourBikeBuilder check if components are compatible?

Yes. Compatibility is one of the main purposes of the builder. Bicycle components often depend on one another, so YourBikeBuilder keeps track of which choices are confirmed, which can still be refined and which depend on another component before a final decision can be made.

Can I use parts I already own?

Yes. You can work with components you already have instead of starting completely from scratch. Existing parts can become constraints within the build, helping YourBikeBuilder refine the recommendations for the components you still need.

Is YourBikeBuilder only for beginners?

No. Beginners can use it to understand what they need and why, while more experienced riders can use the same system to validate gearing, fit and component compatibility. You can keep the experience simple or add more technical information as your build develops.

Is YourBikeBuilder for fixed-gear bikes too?

The current builder is focused primarily on single-speed bicycles using a freewheel. Fixed-gear support may be expanded later, but the current recommendations and compatibility logic should be treated as single-speed focused unless stated otherwise.

What is the difference between a starting build and a refined build?

A starting build is created from the initial questions and gives you a practical direction without requiring detailed measurements or component specifications. A refined build uses additional information, such as body measurements, existing components or more specific preferences, to make individual recommendations more precise.

Does YourBikeBuilder replace a professional bike fit?

No. YourBikeBuilder can help you make more informed sizing and fit-related decisions, but it is not a replacement for a professional bike fitting. If you need highly precise fit guidance, have persistent discomfort or have specific physical requirements, a professional fitter can provide a more detailed assessment.

Does YourBikeBuilder sell bike parts?

YourBikeBuilder is primarily a planning and guidance tool, not a large component catalogue. The goal is to help you understand what you need before you buy. Product recommendations or retailer links may be available where useful, but the build logic comes first.

How long does it take to start a build?

The initial questionnaire contains six essential questions and is designed to be completed quickly. You can get a starting direction first and then spend as much or as little time as you want refining the individual parts of the bike.

Is YourBikeBuilder free to use?

The core builder is intended to help riders explore and plan their single-speed build without requiring a purchase. If additional paid services or optional features are introduced later, they should be clearly identified separately.
